Eye Examinations
We all rely on good eyesight every day, but changes to our quality of vision often occur so gradually that they go unnoticed. The primary reasons for having a regular eye examination are to check the general health of the eyes, identify any early signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma and of course ensure that the spectacle prescription meets the individual’s needs for every day life.
- Normally we recommend that all patients have an eye examination at least every two years, but in some cases, such as children or those with diabetes or glaucoma, tests should be more often.
- An eye examination should take approximately 30 minutes and includes a number of different tests that determine the health of the eye. From these tests we can identify many eye conditions, as well as detecting underlying general health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
- Specialised cameras allow us to take photographs of the inside of the eye enabling long term monitoring of the health of your eyes. This takes just a couple of minutes and does not involve anything touching the eye.
